A QR code generator is a tool that turns a link or text into a scannable QR code image you can download and print. OwnQR makes a static code free, or a dynamic (editable) code for $15 one-time with no recurring subscription on that plan.

Paste a URL into the generator above, then download as SVG (best for print — scales to any size), high-resolution PNG, or JPEG. A static image download encodes your URL directly and has no expiry date of its own — it works as long as that URL does. OwnQR's free hosted code and the $15 dynamic code route through OwnQR's short link instead, so they work while OwnQR provides the service; the dynamic code also lets you change the destination after printing and see scan analytics. It works for websites, menus, business cards, product packaging, social profiles, and event signage, and scans with the native camera on iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android (10+)— no app required. A free static code needs no account; the dynamic upgrade is a single $15 payment, not a recurring fee.

Subscription vs a one-time editable plan

The Subscription Way (Monthly Fees)

Many services bill dynamic codes monthly. With some, a code can stop redirecting if you stop paying, which strands the printed materials it is on. Check each vendor's current terms.

The OwnQR Way ($15 One-Time Plan)

One scan and they are connected to your content. The one-time plan is billed once and needs no recurring subscription; the editable QR remains a hosted OwnQR service, backed by our published Sunset Pledge.

Why Subscription QR Pricing Adds Up Over Time

Every dynamic QR code routes through a hosted redirect, so the printed code keeps working for as long as that redirect service does. Subscription plans bill for that hosting on a recurring basis; verify each vendor's current terms at their own site before you print.

The one-time plan has no recurring subscription; hosted redirect and editing features remain available while OwnQR provides the service.

One-Time Plan Access. One Fair Price.

Get an editable, hosted dynamic QR code with high-resolution downloads for a one-time fee of $15. That plan has no recurring subscription.

QR Code Generator — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a static and dynamic QR code?
In the QR standard, a static code stores its destination in the image itself, while a dynamic code stores a short redirect link whose destination can be changed later without reprinting. On OwnQR, "Download Static Image Only" gives you a static code that encodes your URL directly and does not depend on OwnQR. The free hosted code (account required) and the $15 editable code route through OwnQR's short link instead; the editable code lets you change the destination and see scan analytics, for a one-time payment with no recurring subscription for that plan.
Do QR codes expire?
A QR code has no expiry date of its own — the QR standard (ISO/IEC 18004) has no expiration field. A static code that encodes its destination directly, like OwnQR's "Download Static Image Only" file, keeps working as long as that destination URL works. A code that routes through a redirect, like OwnQR's free hosted code and its $15 editable code, works while the redirect service runs: for OwnQR, while OwnQR provides the service. Dynamic codes from subscription services may stop redirecting if the plan is cancelled; check each vendor's current terms. OwnQR's editable code is a one-time purchase with no recurring subscription for that plan.
What is the best QR code format for print — SVG, PNG, or PDF?
SVG (vector) is the best format for print. It scales to any size — from business cards to billboards — without losing quality. PNG works for digital use at resolutions of 300 DPI or higher. JPEG is acceptable for web and social media but not recommended for print. OwnQR provides free SVG and high-resolution PNG downloads for all QR codes.
How small can a QR code be and still scan reliably?
The minimum recommended size is 2×2 cm (0.8×0.8 inches) for scanning from arm's length. Each module (black square) should be at least 0.76 mm wide. For higher error correction levels, you need slightly larger codes. The rule of thumb: QR code width = scanning distance ÷ 10. Always test a printed sample before mass production.
Are there any truly free QR code generators with no subscription?
Yes. OwnQR's static image download is free — no account, no watermark, no renewal date. You can download in SVG, PNG, or JPEG formats instantly. For dynamic QR codes (editable destination URL + scan analytics), OwnQR charges $15 one-time, and that plan has no recurring fees or hidden costs.
