A vCard QR code helps a person save selected contact details without typing them. OwnQR's free version encodes a short OwnQR URL, not the contact fields themselves. A scan retrieves a hosted .vcf file, so it needs internet access and a working OwnQR service. The free contact data is fixed after generation. If those details may change, the US$15 Editable QR plan upgrades that same QR in place so the printed pattern does not need to be replaced.
How OwnQR's hosted vCard QR works
When you generate the free QR, OwnQR stores the six supported contact fields on its servers and places a short URL in the QR image. A scanner opens that URL, OwnQR looks up the matching record, and the contact card is returned as a .vcf file. The full name, phone number and other fields are not embedded in the printed pattern.
This design has a clear trade-off. The QR can be upgraded later without changing the printed square, but every scan depends on an internet connection, the OwnQR redirect service and an active record. The free flow also logs the scan event, including device type, operating system and network-derived city and country information. It does not identify the scanner by name or provide a way to contact that person.
What the person scanning will see
Phone behaviour varies. A camera may first show the OwnQR link, then open a save-contact view or download the .vcf file and ask which contact app should handle it. Test the finished QR on more than one phone before printing, and place a short instruction such as “Scan to save my contact” beside the code so the expected result is clear.
Build the contact file from six supported fields
Full Name is required. Organization, Title, Mobile Phone, Email and one Website or LinkedIn URL are optional. A blank optional field is left out of the hosted contact card. Use a complete URL beginning with https:// and include a country code in the phone number when people outside your home region may scan the card.
The current generator does not import an existing .vcf file. If a contact app already holds your details, open that record and copy only the supported fields into the form. Review the generated result for spelling, number formatting and the correct public-facing email before downloading it.
A vCard QR is not a hosted profile platform
This tool delivers a contact file through a hosted redirect. It does not create an NFC card, CRM record, team directory or multi-link profile. OwnQR also sells a separate US$15 Hosted vCard Page, but that page is a different product from the editable redirect QR described here.

Start with the free option when the contact details are unlikely to change and reliable internet access is available where the card will be scanned. Choose the US$15 Editable QR plan before a large print run when a phone number, role, employer or link may change.
The important distinction is not “paper versus digital.” It is whether the printed QR should keep pointing to the same fixed contact record or whether an OwnQR account should be able to replace the details behind that existing code. Both choices use a hosted redirect. If you need an offline, self-contained vCard QR whose contact data is inside the pattern, this OwnQR tool is not that product.

Create and proof the vCard QR before printing
1. Enter only public contact fields
Full Name is required. Add the organization, title, mobile number, email and one Website or LinkedIn URL only when you are comfortable printing those details for others to access.
2. Use complete, current values
Include the phone country code and enter the full https:// address for the website or LinkedIn field. Check that the email belongs on a public business card.
3. Generate and scan-test
Scan the preview on a second phone. Confirm the name, phone, email and link are correct, and note whether the device opens a contact view or downloads the .vcf file.
4. Export and print one proof
Download PNG or JPG for common layouts, or SVG for scalable print artwork. Print one physical proof on the intended stock and scan it before approving the full run.
Put the QR on a business card without making it hard to scan
Give the QR enough room and preserve a clear quiet zone on every side. A dark pattern on a light background is the safest starting point. Avoid stretching the image, placing it across a fold or cut line, or surrounding it with visual clutter. The exact safe size depends on scanning distance, data density, print quality, contrast and logo treatment.
Add a result-oriented label such as “Scan to save my contact,” not just “Scan me.” Print one proof, scan it under ordinary lighting with more than one phone, and check the contact file as well as the QR image. If the card will be used where mobile service is unreliable, remember that this hosted QR cannot retrieve the .vcf file without a working connection.
